Music As A Gradual Process' album review in i-DJ

"Following the release of the frankly fabulous Secret Stealth album last month, Nottingham’s Bocajito label return with another slow-burning delight.

This time the culprits are Neon Heights’Cal Gibson and Fug’s Tom Bailey, though the premise is very much the same: two blokes in a studio with a load of instruments, a sampler, a computer and a bunch of old records. Very much like the recent album from East Midlands compatriots Amillionsons, 'Music Is A Gradual Process' pits cheeky samples (late night local radio phone-ins, classic comedy clips. snippets of vocals from obscure jazz records etc) against a series of warm and organic laidback grooves. It's a formula that manages to evoke memories of classic downtempo albums of old, whilst remaining on-point and focused enough to avoid the pitfalls of ambient noodling (thanks largely, it has to be said, to the abundance of live instruments on show).

I have to admit to being a bit surprised at first by the rather trippy and unsettling nature of much of 'Music Is A Gradual Process', but that's actually it’s strongest selling point: this is proper late night tackle of the finest order. Yap’ entertainment.

The snappily titled YOU MAKE LOVE TO ROBOTS AND YOU WONDER WHAT PEOPLE ARE FOR hits the streets October 1 but will as always be available here first at the discounted price of £9 inc P+P worldwide and including a free download. The download will also be 320 mbps mp3 for the first time. neon cover

Two years on from their second longplayer, the extremely-well received 'A Hot Trip to Heaven' and with some new friends in tow - US wunderkid MC/vocalist/saxophonist J.Todd, Swedish chanteuse and 4 Hero muse Carina Andersson and local Notts diva Rachel Harris - the group have organically enhanced their sound, moving on up to what Michael Ruetten has already called 'next level' runnings.

Kicking off with Radio 1 favourite 'I Walked Out This Morning' (multiple plays on The Blue Room to  worldwide positive feedback) a number of these tunes have been doing damage already off CDR. The dancefloor-friendly Love Hound has been getting radio plays from The Unabombers and Michael Ruetten, not to mention a remix from Italy's Nu-Frequency crew, while the response to the Carina Andersson collabo 'Beautiful Thing' which closes the album has been phenomenal: The Unabombers, Pete Lawrence, Jimpster, Gilles P and Rob Da Bank have been amongst those lining up to praise its deep soul emotion.

In between there's a hiphop jazz ode to New Orleans penned by J.Todd ('Pray For New Orleans), some slinky soul courtesy of Rachel Harris' dynamic vocals on Giving my Love, Dreamin and Someone Like You, a cool J.Todd dancefloor ditty (Hott N Freezin) and plenty more to go-go...its a an involving, funk-filled listen from start to finish.

Secret Stealth License Album To USA

That's right Bocajito are proud to announce the licensing of the new Secret Stealth Album to Kosmica in Los Angeles! Kosmica A+R supremo Mark Bell (of Blakkat and Shaboom fame) is a longstanding fan of the Bocajito crew, he fell in love with the latest Stealth offering and now its due for a full scale release in the USA. Since the Americans didn't really get a full portion of the first album, they've taken Dream Of You and dragged Holly into the studio to revocal Here To Stay. So the release will be 12 tracks and be called Hooked On You. This will mean that Mince&Onions will only be available in UK and Ireland (and from our website worldwide) and Hooked On You will be available world wide form
